“Sherlock Holmes” wins big at 17th Korea Musical Awards, JYJ’s Junsu won ‘Popular Star Award‘

Korean musical “Sherlock Holmes” won the grand prize and two more honors at the 17th Korea Musical Awards that took place at Olympic Hall on November 14th. ”Sherlock Holmes” scored the award for best musical, best composition and best screenplay.

The Korean musical adaptation of “Sherlock Holmes,” based on the characters by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle with music and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse, opened its curtains in Seoul in August and starred musical actors Song Yong-jin, Bang Jin-eui and Goo Min-jin.

Meanwhile, JYJ‘s Junsu was presented with the award for Popular Star Award for the second year in a row. He said, “Thank you for giving me such a precious award. The strength behind musicals comes from the passion and efforts of each and every staff member and cast member. And the energy that’s alive, that comes onstage from the audience — I think all that is what makes musicals so attractive.”

Junsu went on to say that receiving the award was particularly meaningful to him — in light of recent experiences being ignored and evaluated unfairly — and thanked everyone who came to see his performances, as well as the cast and staff who laughed and cried together with him.

The ceremony featured musical performances by Kolleen Park, Cho Seung-woo and Yoon Bock-hee.
